Colt Government Model 45ACP SN:C99388 MFG:1918 LUNCHBOX

  • Caliber: 45ACP
  • Era: Pre-War
  • Finish: Brushed Blue
  • Serial Number: C99388
  • Shipment Type: Loss
  • Year: 1918

This Colt Government Model was manufactured some time near the end of 1917 or beginning of 1918.  This particular serial number has no record of leaving the colt factory as noted from the factory archives.

This pistol lacks the VP on the left side trigger guard along with no evidence of assemblers marks.  The roll mark that was utilized on the left side of the slide appears to be the same roll mark that was being used on the M1911 pistols during the 1917-1918 era.  The right side of the slide shows the standard Government Model roll mark.

This pistol was more than likely smuggled out in parts by a line worker at the Colt facility utilizing the resources that he or she had at the time.   The lack of the VP and assemblers marks and no records of the pistol leaving the facotory indicates that this is more than likely a "LunchBox Pistol".  It is assumed that during the war some employees would smuggle parts out in their Lunch Boxes and then later fully assembled offsite.
