The Marine Corps Special Operations Command Detachment 1 (DET 1) was formed on March 3rd, 2003, they needed to acquire a large amount of unique and sophisticated equipment.  The Marine Corps solution was to suggest M9's, but that was not acceptable to the group.  It was determined that an Interim CQB Pistol would be produced.  It was not meant to replace the MEU SOC, but to be an interim pistol until the improved MEU(SOC) pistols came back online.  This is where the Kimber ICQB Pistol was born.

It utilized the standard Kimber MIM slide stop, thumb safety, grip safety, disconnector, sear, hammer and strut.  They utilized the Wilson Combat 47 magazine.

The left side of the slide is marked with the standard Kimber logo.  The right side of the slide is blank.  The right side of the frame is marked: "KIMBER YONKERS, NY U.S.A." "U.S. Military Property USMC"
