This Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless was shipped to the Property Officer of the Supply Division - Officer of Strategic Services (OSS) at the Fowler Building in Rosslyn, Virginia on April 17th, 1944. There were a 100 pistols in this shipment.
The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was a wartime intelligence agency of the United States during WWII. It consisted of 2 major groups, the Wartime Spy Agency and the Commandos. Eventually, after the war it was separated into two different groups. The CIA and the Army Special Forces.
This is considered to be a Type IV pistol with 17 slide serrations, Walnut checkered grips, rounded front and rear sights, 3 3/4" barrel with integrated barrel bushing.
The holster that accompanies this pistol is believed to be the 2nd type of OSS holster. It's a brown leather holster with a leather shoulder strap and white webbing. The earlier OSS holsters featured green webbing.
