This Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless was shipped to the Navy Yard Supply Officer in Washington, D.C. on September 29th, 1917. It was part of a 200 gun shipment. As far as current research shows this is the only Navy WWI era shipment of the colt pocket hammerless pistols. This contract was considered the first American Military contract of the Colt Hammerless pistols. These pistols were accepted into service shortly before WWI and it's believed that they stayed inservice until after WWII.
Since these 200 pistols were not marked in any special manner, they are only able to be determined by their serial number. This example is a type III configuration. It has a 3 3/4" barrel with the integrated barrel bushing, type III hard rubber grips and early rounded sights.
