This Colt .38 Super was shipped to the Camp Exchange, Attn: Geo. T. Fowler, Lt. Col. at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on May 12th, 1947. Camp Lejeune is a Marine Corps Base built in North Carolina in 1941.
This particular 38 Super is considered to be a pre-war / post-war example with the original maroon box. This traditionally refers to pistols that were built prior to the end of WWII but shipped after the war had ended. The grips at this point were no longer utilizing the 28 row checkered wood and were utilizing the Coltwood grips.
