This Colt 38 Super was shipped to the Janney Semple Hill & Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 13th, 1947 in a 10 gun shipment. This particular 38 Super is marked "GOVERNMENT MODEL" on the right side of the frame above the serial number.
This Colt is finished in the post-war tank blued finish which is deeper and darker than it's pre-war counterparts. The top of the slide is also features a matte finish which would help reduce glare while shooting the pistol. The majority of the parts that you see on this pistol are left over WWII parts that Colt had on hand after the war. Instead of disposing of these materials Colt put them to use for a couple of years after the war and they are often seen on pistols in the 1946-1947 vintage.
