This Colt Detective Special was shipped February 18th, 1943 to the Ordnance Officer in Rosslyn, VA in a 257 gun shipment.  Rosslyn, VA was home to the OSS's Warehouse (Fowler Building) and the CIC(Ft. Myer).  This particular revolver was sent on Colt's Factory Order #2756 which ties to the CIC or the Counter Intelligence Corps.

The Counter Intelligence Corps was a WWII and early Colt War Intelligence agency that was part of the United States Army.  It eventually was taken over by the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps in 1961.  CIC Agents would work the field in plain clothes without any badges and were instructed to identify themselves as "Agent" or "Special Agent".  Duties included interrogating POW's, vetting Military personnel who required access to classified material and investigations of possible sabotage and subversion.

On this Detective Special right behind the latch there is what some call an ordnance bomb, flaming bomb or bursting bomb.  This along with the letter confirms that this was a US Government issued revolver.

This detective special features a 2" barrel.  Blue finish with checkered walnut grips.
