This Colt M1911 was produced sometime during 1919. Pistols in the 600,000-629,500 range have not been found in Colt's shipping records. The destination of many of these late production M1911's are unknown.
This pistol is what collectors refer to as a "Black Army" finish. The black finish was caused by rough surface preparation and is known to flake off prematurely. During the ramp up period Colt was utilizing steps to increase the rate of which pistols were being manufactured.
The Type I Eagle's Head inspection mark was utilized from May 15th 1918 - April of 1919.
