Grips on Springfield pistols are unique as they have 11 rows of checkering in-between the diamonds. Springfield M1911 pistols were built from 1914-1917.
All small parts and components on this pistol are marked with a small S. This practice of marking the parts was unique to Springfield. This particular example has the type III Springfield hammer with the rounded rear edge.
Springfield used the flaming bomb on the left hand side on the frame and slide. On the right side of the slide you will notice the American Eagle behind the roll mark of "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY.".
The Springfield M1911 magazines are also unique. They have a folded bottom base plate. They also had a copper plated patch near the top of the magazine on the backside.
