This Colt Official Police Revolver was shipped to the Bauer Hardware Company in Lewiston, Maine on February 21st, 1942 in a 5 gun shipment. It was on Colt Factory Order #1263.
Remarks on the letter state "The records further reflect that the butt of the revolvers in this shipment were rolled "LPD No.1" through "LPD No. 5". It is assumed that this revolver was built for the Lewiston Police Department.
Gary Peer's book estimates that less than 200 Official Police 2" barrel variations were manufactured. The 2" label is cut and pasted on the box which was done quite often at Colt. It is numbered to the pistol and appears to be correct.
