This Colt 1908 Vest Pocket was shipped on July 28th, 1909. It was shipped to the Loan Account of Wm. R. Burkhard in a single gun shipment.
The remarks on the letter read: The records further indicate subject pistol was returned to the factory on August 26th, 1909. It was then shipped on Loan Account to Spencer Hibbard of the Bartlett & Company in Chicago, Illinois on February 28th, 1910. It was again returned to the factory on April 14th 1910. Unfortunately, we are unable to locate any additional information pertaining to the final disposition of this piece.
As you can see from the photos the pistol is wearing a gold finish and pearl grips. The gold plated finish appears identical to other documented gold plated finish pistols. Colt was known for building high grade examples for department stores or shooting matches to have on display to showcase Colt's capabilities. With this particular example going out and being returned twice we are unable to determine when the finish was applied.
