This Colt M1911 was shipped to the Commanding Officer at the Benicia Arsenal in Benicia California on November 6th, 1912. This pistol retains it's factory original fine brushed blue finish with 15 row checkered walnut grips.
This particular Colt 1911 is accompanied by paperwork that verifies that this pistol to be the issued property of UAAAF Brigadier General Charles R. Glenn.
General Glenn graduated from Jefferson Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1914 and was appointed a first lieutenant in the Medical Reserve on January 24, 1917.
After service at Fort Lawton, Washington, Camp Greenleaf, Georgia, and Camp Lee, Virginia, Glenn was promoted to captain while posted as Ward Surgeon at Fort William McKinley, Manila, Philippine Islands. He attended both the Army Medical School and the Medical Field Service School, before being posted at Camp McClellan, Alabama, as commander of the camp hospital in 1928. In August of that year, Glenn reported to Brooks Field, Texas, to enter the School of Aviation Medicine.
He then served as Chief of Surgical Service at Randolph Field, Texas, and later Surgeon of the Flying Cadet Detachment before going to Albrook Field, Canal Zone, in 1935 as Post Surgeon. Glenn became Surgeon at the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1942. He was promoted to colonel on May 13, 1934, and brigadier general (temporary) on September 17, 1943. Glenn was made Deputy Air Surgeon in 1944 and retired in 1951 with the permanent grade of brigadier general.
