This Colt M1911A1 was shipped in May of 1943 to the Transportation Officer at Springfield Armory.
This Colt was part of a batch of 1515 lend lease pistols sent to Canada where it was marked with the C broad arrow on the rear of the slide and on the frame above the magazine catch release. After use in Canada it would be returned to England where the normal British proofs were applied in the 1950's before the pistol would returned back to the US.
The inspector stamp of G.H.D. for Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry. B.G. Guy Drewry was the Army Inspector of Ordnance at the Springfield Ordnance District from June 17th, 1942 to July 15th 1945.
