This Colt Woodsman is a Sport Model with a 4 1/2" straight tapered barrel and a fixed front sight. It has Colt's factory checkered walnut grips.
This particular Woodsman was a special order and was sold to C.G. Baisch of Grand Rapids, Michigan and shipped to Buhl Sons Company of Detroit, Michigan. It was in a single gun shipment on July 29th 1938.
This Woodsman was ordered special with a factory checkered back strap as seen on the pistol. Note that the factory letter reads grip safety, but the Colt Woodsman's did not have grip safeties only backstraps. It's rare but from time to time pistols were documented incorrectly in Colt's ledgers, hence some simple errors on the letters.
