This Colt Detective Special was shipped September 21st, 1970 to the Commanding Officer at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. It was on Colt factory order #12080 in a 937 gun shipment. The factory letter states this was sold the the United States Government.
This Detective Special is marked on the left side trigger guard with a large "P" proof mark and a "U.S." stamped on the backstrap. This Colt has Checkered Walnut stocks.
During the Vietnam War in 1970, the Army bought just shy of 3,000 new Detective Special revolvers, delivered to the Letterkenny Army Depot.
