This Colt Woodsman Match Target Bullseye model was shipped to Sports Inc. of Chicago, Illinois on May 29th, 1940 in a single gun shipment.
This Match Target Bullseye model has Colt's fine brush blue finish and the factory checkered walnut elephant ear wrap around grips. Where the grips are fully wrapped around Colt decided to stamp the serial number of these pistols in the magazine well.
The first series Match Targets featured a 6 5/8" flat sided barrel. This example is a later style with the 2nd type of "Match Target" logo used.
Introduced in 1938 The Colt Woodsman Match target was produced in response of the target shooters at the time. It featured larger grips, a heavier barrel and a hand honed action.
