This Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless was issued to Brigadier General Stewart E. Reimel. It's accompanied by the original box with a label attched that reads. "Property Of - Brig. General Stewart E. Reimel (0-7449) New York Ordinance District, 80 Broadway, New York, 5, N.Y. Cal. .380 Pistol. It also includes 2 spare magazines. The serial number 136603 is written on the underside of the box.
Stewart Elvin Reimel was born April 24th 1892 in Stroudsburg, PA. He passed away July 24th, 1985 in Arlington, Virginia.
BG Reimel made his career in the Army, Infantry 2d Lt in WW1. He was wounded in October 1918, pulled off his first ship headed for the U.S. and spent time in Europe for occupation duty until 1921. He switched positions and moved into Ordnance in 1923 and stayed in this area until he retired. then did ordnance stuff the rest of his career.
He was married three times. His Service Serial number 07449 can be seen printed on the box and the supporting documents.
During World War II BG Reimel was the Chief of Maintenance Division at the Tank Automotive Center in Detroit. Would then move to the Cheif of New York Ordnance District where he served until his retirement. He received the Distinguished Service Medal and retired February 28th, 1946.
