This Colt Woodsman Sport was produced in 1940. It's currently been modified with a Colt King Super Target front sight and a King adjustable rear sight. It is accompanied by a letter from Major Robert J. Rayburn who is the the authority on the Colt Woodsman pistols.
The letter reads: "Orville Kuhl was a Master Engraver who was active in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. His unique style of gun engraving is easily recognized and often contains very fine wildlife images. In the 1930s he was the on-call engraver for King Gunsight Co of San Francisco. He also engraved plaques and created art work on metal display items. An example of his work is in the Gene Autry Museum and was also contained in the personal collections of Robert Stack and Clark Gable, among others.
It was originally shipped to Adolph Blaich Inc. of San Francisco, California on April 2nd, 1940. It was in a 5 gun shipment.
This example, serial number 137450, has been customized and accurized by the King Gunsight Co, and engraved by Orville Kuhl.
